Potato is a versatile underground tuber widely used in everyday cooking. It has a mild flavour and can be prepared in many different ways, making it an important ingredient in Indian and international cuisines.

Our potatoes are sourced from farming families associated with Bengaluru, Karnataka, following traditional and indigenous farming practices. The actual farmer, growing area, variety and harvest characteristics may vary depending on the season and availability.

As a naturally grown tuber, potatoes can vary in size, shape, skin colour and texture from one harvest to another.

Benefits of Using

Potatoes naturally provide:

  • Carbohydrates, which are an important source of energy in the diet.
  • Dietary fibre, particularly when the skin is eaten.
  • Potassium, a naturally occurring mineral.
  • Vitamin C in varying amounts.
  • Small amounts of vitamin B6 and other B-group vitamins.
  • Naturally low fat when prepared without added fats.

These are general nutritional characteristics and are not medical claims.

Common Uses

Potatoes are extremely versatile and can be used for:

  • Potato curry
  • Sambar and mixed vegetable preparations
  • Aloo fry
  • Aloo paratha
  • Masala dosa filling
  • Potato roast
  • Vegetable cutlets
  • Samosa and other savoury snacks
  • Potato chips and fries
  • Soups and stews
  • Vegetable pulao and biryani
  • Boiled or mashed potato preparations

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Potatoes are harvested from underground and can naturally be stored for a considerable period when kept under suitable conditions.

During storage, potatoes may gradually:

  • Lose some moisture
  • Develop minor skin changes
  • Become slightly softer
  • Develop sprouts
  • Show small areas of surface blemishing

Sprouting is a natural response of potatoes during storage, particularly when conditions are warm or when they have been stored for a long period.

Why Potatoes May Spoil or Sprout

Potatoes are affected by temperature, light, moisture and ventilation.

They may deteriorate faster when:

  • Stored in excessive moisture
  • Kept in direct sunlight
  • Exposed to unsuitable temperatures
  • Stored in a poorly ventilated plastic bag
  • Physically damaged during handling

Important: Potatoes should preferably be stored in a cool, dark and dry place. Exposure to light can cause potatoes to develop green areas.

We rely on proper harvesting, curing, handling and storage practices rather than chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh produce.

Storage

For better storage:

  • Keep potatoes in a cool, dark and dry place.
  • Store them in a breathable bag, basket or container.
  • Keep them away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid washing potatoes before long-term storage.
  • Do not store them in a tightly sealed plastic bag where moisture can accumulate.
  • Check periodically and remove potatoes that are damaged or rotting.
  • Avoid storing potatoes together with onions for extended periods, as the two can contribute to faster deterioration when stored closely together.

About green potatoes: If a potato has extensive green colouring, it is better not to consume it. Green colour is associated with increased glycoalkaloids such as solanine. Small sprouts should also be removed before cooking, but potatoes that are heavily sprouted, very green, shrivelled or otherwise deteriorated should be discarded.

Natural Variation

Naturally grown potatoes may differ in:

  • Size
  • Shape
  • Skin colour
  • Skin texture
  • Number and depth of eyes
  • Firmness
  • Weight
  • Surface markings

These differences are natural characteristics of agricultural produce and can be influenced by variety, soil, weather, growing conditions and harvesting.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh agricultural products are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary deterioration after delivery.

Differences in size, shape, skin appearance, colour, texture and natural surface markings are considered normal characteristics.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please provide clear photographs and the relevant order details. The matter can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
