Garlic Nati

Also Known As: Nati Garlic, Country Garlic, Native Garlic

Garlic Nati is a traditional/native variety of garlic known for its characteristic aroma, flavour and smaller, naturally formed cloves compared with some larger commercial garlic varieties.

Our Nati Garlic is sourced from farming families associated with Bengaluru, Karnataka, following traditional and indigenous farming practices. The actual farmer, growing area, variety and harvest characteristics may vary depending on the season.

Garlic is a bulb crop that grows underground. After harvesting, it is naturally cured and dried to improve storage life before being supplied.

Benefits of Using

Garlic naturally contains:

  • Sulphur-containing compounds, which contribute to its characteristic aroma and flavour.
  • Vitamin B6 in small amounts.
  • Vitamin C in small amounts.
  • Manganese, a naturally occurring mineral.
  • Small amounts of dietary fibre and other naturally occurring plant compounds.
  • Its strong natural flavour allows it to add depth and aroma to dishes without requiring large quantities.

These are general nutritional characteristics and are not medical claims.

Common Uses

Nati Garlic is widely used in everyday Indian cooking:

  • Sambar and rasam
  • Vegetable curries
  • Dal and lentil preparations
  • Chutneys and thogayal
  • Garlic chutney
  • Pickles
  • Garlic rice and pulao
  • Stir-fries
  • Masala preparations
  • Garlic tadka
  • Soups and sauces
  • Traditional spice pastes

The cloves can be peeled and used whole, sliced, chopped, crushed or ground according to the recipe.

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Unlike leafy or highly perishable vegetables, properly cured garlic is naturally suitable for relatively longer storage.

Over time, naturally stored garlic may:

  • Become slightly lighter or drier
  • Develop dry outer skins
  • Lose some moisture
  • Produce green shoots if stored for a long period
  • Become softer if exposed to excess moisture
  • Develop mould if kept in damp conditions

These changes are affected by harvesting, curing, temperature, humidity and storage conditions.

Why Garlic May Spoil

Garlic needs to remain relatively dry during storage. Excess moisture can encourage mould and deterioration.

Garlic may spoil faster when:

  • Stored in a damp environment
  • Kept in a sealed plastic bag with trapped moisture
  • Exposed to excessive heat or humidity
  • Stored after being washed while still wet
  • Individual cloves are damaged during handling

We use natural curing, drying and appropriate handling practices rather than chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of the product.

Storage

For better storage:

  • Keep garlic in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place.
  • Avoid storing it in a tightly sealed plastic bag.
  • Keep the bulbs dry.
  • Do not wash the entire batch before storage.
  • Store away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
  • Once cloves are peeled or cut, refrigerate and use promptly.
  • Remove any mouldy or damaged bulb/clove immediately.

Important: Do not store fresh garlic in a damp environment, as moisture can significantly shorten its storage life.

Natural Variation

Nati Garlic is a natural agricultural product, so you may notice differences in:

  • Bulb size
  • Clove size
  • Number of cloves per bulb
  • Outer skin colour
  • Clove colour
  • Shape
  • Aroma intensity
  • Firmness
  • Dryness of the outer skin

These variations can occur naturally due to seed stock, soil, weather, season, cultivation practices and harvesting conditions.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh agricultural products are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary deterioration after delivery.

Differences in bulb size, clove size, shape, colour, skin appearance and aroma are natural characteristics and are not considered quality defects by themselves.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please provide clear photographs and the relevant order details. The matter can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
