About Drumstick

Drumstick is the long, slender edible pod of the moringa tree. It is a traditional vegetable widely used in South Indian cooking, especially in sambar and curries.

Our Drumsticks are sourced through relationships with various farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, using traditional natural farming and indigenous agricultural practices. The actual farmer and source may vary from batch to batch depending on seasonal availability.

We use natural handling and preservation methods rather than relying on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.

Benefits of Using

Drumstick has useful nutritional characteristics:

  • Provides dietary fibre.
  • Contains vitamin C and vitamin A.
  • Provides minerals including calcium, potassium and magnesium.
  • Contains naturally occurring plant compounds.
  • Adds flavour and texture to vegetable and lentil-based dishes.
  • The tender pods can be cooked along with sambar, dal and other traditional preparations.

These are general nutritional characteristics and are not medical claims.

Common Uses

Drumstick can be used for:

  • Drumstick sambar
  • Drumstick dal
  • Drumstick curry
  • Drumstick poriyal
  • Drumstick avial
  • Drumstick pulusu
  • Drumstick rasam
  • Mixed vegetable curry
  • Coconut-based preparations
  • Traditional South Indian recipes

How to Eat Drumstick

The tender inner portion and pulp are commonly eaten after cooking. The outer pod itself is fibrous and is usually cut into pieces and cooked, with the soft pulp scraped or eaten from inside while the tougher outer portion is discarded.

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Drumstick is a fresh and perishable vegetable. After harvesting, the pods naturally lose moisture and tenderness.

You may notice:

  • Gradual loss of firmness
  • Slight drying at the ends
  • Wrinkling of the outer skin
  • Colour changes
  • Increased fibre or toughness as the pod matures
  • Minor surface marks

For the best tenderness and eating quality, Drumsticks are best used soon after delivery.

Why Drumsticks May Spoil Faster

Fresh vegetables naturally deteriorate with time, especially in warm and humid conditions. We do not rely on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.

Therefore, Drumsticks may sometimes dry, soften or become more fibrous during storage. This is a natural characteristic of fresh produce and does not automatically indicate poor quality.

Storage

For better freshness:

  • Refrigerate Drumsticks after receiving them.
  • Keep them dry and avoid excess moisture.
  • Do not wash until you are ready to cook.
  • Store in a clean vegetable bag or suitable container.
  • Remove damaged portions if noticed.
  • Use the fresher and more tender pods first.

Natural Variation

Drumsticks may naturally vary in:

  • Length
  • Thickness
  • Straightness
  • Green colour intensity
  • Firmness
  • Tenderness
  • Fibre content
  • Seed development
  • Minor surface marks

These differences can occur naturally due to variety, season, weather, soil conditions and harvesting stage.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh vegetables are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary spoilage after delivery.

Differences in length, thickness, colour, shape, natural fibre content, minor surface marks or softening during storage are considered normal characteristics of fresh produce.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. Each case will be reviewed individually.
