About Chow Chow
Chow Chow, also known as Chayote, is a mild-flavoured, crisp vegetable belonging to the gourd family. It is commonly used in South Indian cooking for curries, kootu, sambar and stir-fries.
Our Chow Chow is sourced through relationships with various farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, using traditional natural farming and indigenous agricultural practices. The actual farmer and source may vary from batch to batch depending on seasonal availability.
We use natural handling and preservation methods rather than relying on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life
Chow Chow is a fresh and perishable vegetable. After harvesting, it naturally changes with time and storage conditions.
You may notice:
- Gradual loss of firmness
- Minor skin marks
- Moisture loss
- Slight wrinkling
- Changes in skin colour
- Softening when stored for longer periods
For the best texture and freshness, Chow Chow is best used soon after delivery.
Why Chow Chow May Spoil Faster
Fresh vegetables naturally deteriorate with time, particularly in warm and humid conditions. We do not rely on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.
Therefore, Chow Chow may sometimes soften, wrinkle or deteriorate sooner than commercially treated or differently handled produce. This is a natural characteristic of fresh produce and does not automatically indicate poor quality.
Storage
For better freshness:
- Refrigerate Chow Chow after receiving it.
- Keep it dry and avoid excess moisture.
- Do not wash until you are ready to use it.
- Store in the vegetable section of the refrigerator.
- Remove damaged pieces promptly.
- If cut, store the remaining portion in a clean covered container and use soon.
Natural Variation
Chow Chow may naturally vary in:
- Size
- Shape
- Weight
- Skin colour
- Firmness
- Surface texture
- Seed size
- Tenderness
- Minor surface marks
These differences can occur naturally due to variety, season, weather, soil conditions and harvesting stage.
Replacement Policy
Generally, fresh vegetables are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary spoilage after delivery.
Differences in size, shape, colour, weight, minor surface marks, natural softening or moisture loss during storage are considered normal characteristics of fresh produce.
If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. Each case will be reviewed individually.
