About Ash Gourd

Ash Gourd is a mild-flavoured, water-rich vegetable belonging to the gourd family. It has a pale green to whitish outer skin and firm, light-coloured flesh. It is widely used in traditional Indian cooking.

Our Ash Gourd is sourced through relationships with various farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, using traditional natural farming and indigenous agricultural practices. The actual farmer and source may vary from batch to batch depending on seasonal availability.

We use natural handling and preservation methods rather than relying on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.

Ash Gourd has useful nutritional characteristics:

  • Has a high natural water content.
  • Provides dietary fibre.

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Ash Gourd is a fresh agricultural product that naturally changes after harvesting.

You may notice:

  • Gradual softening
  • Moisture loss
  • Minor skin marks
  • Changes in the outer surface
  • Softening or drying of the cut portion
  • Changes in texture during prolonged storage

A whole, uncut Ash Gourd generally keeps better than a cut piece. Once cut, the exposed flesh should be refrigerated and used sooner.

Why Ash Gourd May Spoil Faster

Fresh vegetables naturally deteriorate with time, particularly in warm and humid conditions. We do not rely on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.

Once Ash Gourd is cut, the exposed flesh is more susceptible to moisture loss and deterioration. Therefore, cut Ash Gourd should be stored properly and used promptly.

This is a natural characteristic of fresh produce and does not automatically indicate poor quality.

Storage

For better freshness:

  • Keep whole Ash Gourd in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place if using it soon.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight and excess moisture.
  • Once cut, refrigerate the remaining portion.
  • Cover the cut surface appropriately before refrigeration.
  • Use cut Ash Gourd sooner than an intact one.
  • Remove any damaged portion before cooking.

Natural Variation

Ash Gourd may naturally vary in:

  • Size
  • Weight
  • Shape
  • Skin colour
  • Firmness
  • Flesh colour
  • Moisture content
  • Seed size and quantity
  • Surface texture
  • Minor natural marks

These differences can occur naturally due to variety, season, weather, soil conditions and harvesting stage.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh vegetables are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary spoilage after delivery.

Differences in size, shape, weight, colour, firmness, seed quantity, minor surface marks or natural moisture loss during storage are considered normal characteristics of fresh produce.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. Each case will be reviewed individually.
