About Bottle Gourd

Bottle Gourd is a mild-flavoured, tender vegetable belonging to the gourd family. It has a high natural water content and is commonly used in everyday Indian cooking, especially in curries, dal, kootu and traditional preparations.

Our Bottle Gourds are sourced through relationships with various farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, using traditional natural farming and indigenous agricultural practices. The actual farmer and source may vary from batch to batch depending on seasonal availability.

We use natural handling and preservation methods rather than relying on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Bottle Gourd is a fresh and highly perishable vegetable. After harvesting, it naturally loses moisture and freshness.

You may notice:

  • Gradual softening
  • Loss of firmness
  • Minor skin marks
  • Moisture loss
  • Changes in skin colour
  • Softening of the cut surface
  • Changes in texture during prolonged storage

A whole, uncut Bottle Gourd generally keeps better than a cut piece. Once cut, it should be refrigerated and used sooner.

Why Bottle Gourd May Spoil Faster

Fresh vegetables naturally deteriorate with time, particularly in warm and humid conditions. We do not rely on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables.

Once Bottle Gourd is cut, the exposed flesh is more susceptible to moisture loss and deterioration. Therefore, cut Bottle Gourd should be stored properly and used promptly.

This is a natural characteristic of fresh produce and does not automatically indicate poor quality.

Storage

For better freshness:

  • Keep whole Bottle Gourd in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place if using it soon.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight and excess moisture.
  • Once cut, refrigerate the remaining portion.
  • Cover the cut portion appropriately before refrigeration.
  • Use cut Bottle Gourd sooner than an intact one.
  • Remove damaged portions before cooking.

Important: Before cooking, cut a small piece and taste it. If the Bottle Gourd has an unusually strong or bitter taste, discard it rather than consuming it.

Natural Variation

Bottle Gourd may naturally vary in:

  • Length
  • Size
  • Weight
  • Shape
  • Skin colour
  • Firmness
  • Tenderness
  • Seed size and development
  • Flesh thickness
  • Minor surface marks

These differences can occur naturally due to variety, season, weather, soil conditions and harvesting stage.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh vegetables are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary spoilage after delivery.

Differences in size, shape, weight, colour, firmness, seed development, minor surface marks or natural moisture loss during storage are considered normal characteristics of fresh produce.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. Each case will be reviewed individually.
