Mint Leaves

Also Known As: Mint, Pudina, Pudina Leaves

Mint is a fragrant leafy herb widely used in Indian cooking for its refreshing aroma and distinctive cool, slightly sweet flavour. Fresh mint is commonly used in chutneys, rice dishes, beverages and many traditional preparations.

Our Mint Leaves are sourced from various farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, following traditional and indigenous farming practices. The actual farmer, growing area, variety and harvest characteristics may vary depending on the season and availability.

As a fresh leafy herb, Mint is delicate and naturally has a shorter shelf life than many root and tuber vegetables.

Benefits of Using

Mint naturally provides:

  • Vitamin A precursors, including naturally occurring carotenoids.
  • Vitamin C in varying amounts.
  • Small amounts of folate and other B-group vitamins.
  • Naturally occurring minerals such as iron, calcium and potassium.
  • Small amounts of dietary fibre.
  • Its strong natural aroma and flavour can add freshness to food without requiring large quantities.

These are general nutritional characteristics and are not medical claims.

Common Uses

Mint Leaves can be used in many everyday preparations:

  • Mint chutney
  • Pudina rice
  • Pudina pulao
  • Biryani
  • Raita
  • Fresh salads
  • Mint tea and beverages
  • Lemon-mint drinks
  • Chutneys and dips
  • Soups
  • Spice pastes
  • Garnishing curries and other dishes

Mint can be used fresh, chopped, blended or added whole depending on the preparation.

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Mint is a tender, high-moisture leafy herb and naturally has a short shelf life.

After harvesting, the leaves may gradually:

  • Lose moisture
  • Wilt
  • Become soft
  • Develop yellowing
  • Lose some of their fresh aroma
  • Show minor leaf damage

Warm temperatures and improper moisture levels can cause Mint to deteriorate quickly.

Why Mint May Spoil Faster

Fresh Mint naturally loses water after harvesting and is particularly sensitive to temperature and handling.

It may spoil faster when:

  • Kept at room temperature for an extended period
  • Stored while excessively wet
  • Packed tightly with trapped moisture
  • Exposed to heat
  • Crushed or damaged during handling
  • Stored for too long after harvesting

We rely on careful harvesting, handling and natural storage practices, rather than chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh leafy produce.

Storage

For better freshness:

  • Refrigerate Mint as soon as possible after delivery.
  • Remove damaged or yellowing leaves.
  • Avoid washing the entire bunch before storage.
  • If the leaves are wet, gently remove excess moisture.
  • Wrap loosely in a clean, breathable material or suitable vegetable bag.
  • Avoid tightly sealing wet Mint, as trapped moisture can encourage deterioration.
  • Wash just before use.
  • Use promptly for the best aroma and freshness.

Natural Variation

Naturally grown Mint may vary in:

  • Leaf size
  • Leaf shape
  • Green colour intensity
  • Stem length
  • Tenderness
  • Aroma
  • Flavour intensity
  • Bunch size
  • Natural moisture content

The strength of the characteristic mint aroma can naturally vary according to variety, maturity, season, soil and growing conditions.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh leafy vegetables and herbs are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary spoilage after delivery.

Differences in leaf size, colour, tenderness, aroma, stem length and bunch size are considered normal characteristics of fresh Mint.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please provide clear photographs and the relevant order details. The matter can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
