Coriander Leaves

Also Known As: Coriander, Coriander Leaves, Cilantro, Dhania, Kothameera

Coriander Leaves are one of the most commonly used fresh herbs in Indian cooking. They are valued for their fresh green appearance, distinctive aroma and refreshing flavour.

Our Coriander Leaves are sourced from various farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, following traditional and indigenous farming practices. The actual farmer, growing area, variety and harvest characteristics may vary depending on the season and availability.

As a fresh leafy herb, Coriander is delicate and naturally has a shorter shelf life than many root and tuber vegetables.

Benefits of Using

Coriander Leaves naturally provide:

  • Vitamin K, naturally present in leafy greens.
  • Vitamin A precursors, including carotenoids.
  • Vitamin C in varying amounts.
  • Small amounts of folate and other nutrients.
  • Naturally occurring minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium.
  • Small amounts of dietary fibre.
  • A strong natural aroma and flavour, making it useful as a garnish and seasoning.

These are general nutritional characteristics and are not medical claims.

Common Uses

Coriander Leaves can be used in many everyday preparations:

  • Coriander chutney
  • Sambar
  • Rasam
  • Curries and gravies
  • Dal
  • Biryani
  • Pulao
  • Vegetable stir-fries
  • Salads
  • Raita
  • Soups
  • Dosa and idli accompaniments
  • Garnishing cooked dishes
  • Fresh coriander-based spice pastes

The leaves and tender stems can be chopped and added during cooking or used fresh as a garnish.

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Coriander is a tender, high-moisture leafy herb and naturally has a short shelf life.

After harvesting, the leaves may gradually:

  • Lose moisture
  • Wilt
  • Become soft
  • Develop yellowing
  • Lose some of their fresh aroma
  • Show minor leaf damage

Warm temperatures can cause Coriander Leaves to lose freshness particularly quickly.

Why Coriander Leaves May Spoil Faster

Fresh coriander naturally loses water after harvesting and is sensitive to both heat and excess moisture.

It may spoil faster when:

  • Kept at room temperature for too long
  • Stored while excessively wet
  • Packed tightly with trapped moisture
  • Exposed to heat
  • Crushed or damaged during handling
  • Stored for an extended period after harvesting

We rely on careful harvesting, handling and natural storage practices, rather than chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh leafy produce.

Storage

For better freshness:

  • Refrigerate Coriander Leaves as soon as possible after delivery.
  • Remove yellowing or damaged leaves.
  • Avoid washing the entire bunch before storage.
  • If the leaves are wet, gently remove excess moisture before refrigeration.
  • Wrap loosely in a clean, breathable material or suitable vegetable bag.
  • Avoid tightly sealing wet coriander because trapped moisture can encourage deterioration.
  • Wash thoroughly just before use.
  • Use promptly for the best aroma, colour and freshness.

Natural Variation

Naturally grown Coriander Leaves may vary in:

  • Leaf size
  • Leaf shape
  • Green colour intensity
  • Stem length
  • Tenderness
  • Aroma
  • Flavour intensity
  • Bunch size
  • Natural moisture content

The strength of the characteristic coriander aroma can naturally vary according to variety, maturity, season, soil and growing conditions.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh leafy vegetables and herbs are not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary spoilage after delivery.

Differences in leaf size, colour, tenderness, aroma, stem length and bunch size are considered normal characteristics of fresh Coriander Leaves.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please provide clear photographs and the relevant order details. The matter can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
