Traditional Mustard | Aromatic Seeds for Tempering & Everyday Cooking

Our Mustard Seeds are carefully selected mustard seeds sourced through our network of farming families in India. The seeds are cleaned, sorted and packed as whole seeds, making them convenient for traditional tempering and everyday cooking.

Mustard seeds are a familiar ingredient in Indian kitchens, valued for their characteristic aroma and sharp, warming flavour when tempered.

From Farm to Kitchen

Mustard is sourced from different farming families depending on crop availability and sourcing.

The seeds are:

  • Carefully selected
  • Cleaned and sorted
  • Naturally dried/handled
  • Packed as whole seeds
  • Stored using natural storage practices

The actual farmer/source may vary by batch depending on crop availability and sourcing.

Our Farming Approach

Our spices come through a network of farming families who follow traditional and natural farming practices passed down through generations.

We focus on knowing:

  • Who grows the crop
  • Where it is cultivated
  • How it is grown
  • How it is handled after harvest

We do not carry an organic certification. Our approach is based on our direct relationship with farming families and our understanding of their traditional cultivation practices.

We do not intentionally adulterate our products.

Everyday Uses of Mustard Seeds

Mustard Seeds are commonly used in:

  • Tempering for dal
  • Sambar
  • Rasam
  • Vegetable curries
  • Coconut-based preparations
  • Pickles
  • Chutneys
  • Curry leaves tempering
  • South Indian breakfast preparations
  • Spice blends
  • Traditional Indian recipes

Mustard seeds are typically tempered in hot oil until they begin to crackle, releasing their characteristic aroma.

Traditional Tempering

Mustard seeds are an important part of many traditional tadka/tempering preparations.

Heat oil, add mustard seeds and allow them to crackle. Depending on the recipe, they may be combined with ingredients such as curry leaves, cumin, dried chillies or other spices.

Storage & Natural Variation

Whole spices are agricultural products and can naturally vary in seed size, colour, aroma and appearance between batches.

For best storage:

  • Store in a clean, dry, airtight container.
  • Keep in a cool and dry place.
  • Protect from moisture and humidity.
  • Use a clean, dry spoon.
  • Keep the container tightly closed after use.

Replacement Policy

Natural variation in seed size, colour or aroma does not by itself qualify for replacement.

If you receive a product with a genuine quality issue, such as visible fungus/mould, significant moisture damage, infestation or other clear deterioration, please contact us with clear photographs and your order details so that we can review the issue.
