Product Description
Chana Dal is a traditional pulse made from split chickpeas (Bengal gram). It is a versatile staple used in everyday Indian cooking, including dals, curries, sambar, snacks and traditional preparations.
At Sampoorna Swadesi, our grains and pulses are sourced from different farming families because different crops require different soil conditions, climate and growing environments. We work with farming families who follow traditional and natural farming practices.
Know Your Farmers
Our grains and pulses are cultivated by farming families including:
- Rajesh – Macherla, Andhra Pradesh
- Siva Reddy – Rayachoti, Andhra Pradesh
- Jagadeesh Rao – Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh
- Ashok Reddy – Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh
- Yedukondalu – Piduguralla, Andhra Pradesh
The farmer/source may vary depending on the crop and batch. This allows us to source each grain or pulse from a location suitable for its cultivation.
Natural Farming & Indigenous Seeds
Our Chana Dal is sourced from farmers following natural farming methods and using indigenous/traditional seeds, according to the farming practices followed by the respective farmer.
Our approach is based on maintaining a direct relationship with farming families and understanding where our food comes from.
We do not claim organic certification for this product. Our focus is on traditional farming knowledge, traceable sourcing and a direct relationship with farmers.
Natural Preservation
We follow natural preservation and storage practices to help maintain shelf life, rather than relying on chemical preservatives as part of our approach.
Because this is a naturally handled food product, customers may notice normal variations in colour, size, texture or appearance between batches.
Why Can Black Pests Appear in Dal?
Customers may sometimes notice small black storage insects/pests in grains and pulses.
This can happen with stored grain products. Storage insects can originate from the crop or become visible later during storage. Their presence does not by itself mean that the product has been adulterated. SFA also notes that storage weevils can occur in stored grain products and recommends keeping grains in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dry place.
We encourage customers to:
- Store Chana Dal in a clean, dry, airtight container.
- Keep it away from moisture and direct sunlight.
- Check the product periodically.
- Clean and completely dry the storage container before refilling.
- Purchase quantities appropriate for your consumption.
If you notice mould/fungus, unusual moisture, white worms/larvae or significant deterioration, please contact us with photographs and batch/order details.
Replacement Policy
As a naturally sourced and traditionally handled pulse, minor variations and occasional storage insects are not automatically considered a product defect.
Generally, Chana Dal will not be replaced for the presence of occasional black storage pests.
However, we will consider replacement for a genuine quality issue, particularly where there is visible fungus/mould, white worms/larvae or significant deterioration. Please contact us as soon as possible with photographs and the relevant order/batch information.

Our Sampoorna Swadesi Approach
At Sampoorna Swadesi, we believe knowing who grows our food and where it comes from is important.
Different crops need different soil and climatic conditions, so we work with farming families from different regions rather than treating all grains and pulses as though they can be grown in the same environment.
Our focus is:
Know the farmer → Know the source → Respect traditional farming → Bring food to your family
We choose to focus on our relationship with farming families and traceable sourcing rather than using an organic certification as the sole measure of how food is grown.
