Sidda Sanna Rice is a traditional rice variety cultivated by our farmer Yedukondalu from Piduguralla, Andhra Pradesh, India.
At Sampoorna Swadesi, we believe that the story behind the food is just as important as the food itself. This rice is cultivated using traditional indigenous natural farming methods, and we maintain a direct connection with the farming family.
Know Your Farmer
Farmer: Yedukondalu
Location: Piduguralla, Andhra Pradesh, India
Rice Variety: Sidda Sanna Rice
Processing: Single Polished
Rather than treating rice simply as a commodity, we prefer to know the farmer who grows it and the place from which it comes.
This traceability is an important part of the Sampoorna Swadesi concept.
How Sidda Sanna Rice Is Cultivated
Sidda Sanna Rice is cultivated using traditional indigenous farming methods and natural farming practices.
Our approach focuses on traditional agricultural knowledge and methods followed by farming families over generations.
At Sampoorna Swadesi:
- We work directly with farming families in our network.
- We value traditional and indigenous farming practices.
- We aim to minimise unnecessary chemical intervention.
- We maintain traceability of the farmer and source.
- We do not represent this rice as certified organic unless the applicable certification is actually available.
Our philosophy is simple: know the farmer, know the land and understand how the food is grown.
Single Polished Rice
Sidda Sanna Rice is single polished.
The rice undergoes a single polishing process rather than extensive polishing. This allows us to offer the traditional rice variety in a form suitable for everyday cooking while retaining its characteristic grain appearance.
Rice varieties can differ in texture, aroma, cooking time and water requirement, so we recommend customers try the rice and adjust the cooking method according to their preference.
Why Might You See a Black Pest in the Rice?
An important note for our customers
Because of our approach to natural preservation and storage, you may occasionally notice a small black rice insect/pest in the rice.
This can happen naturally in stored grains, particularly under warm and humid storage conditions. SFA also recognises rice weevils as a natural occurrence in rice and recommends storing rice in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place.
The occasional presence of a storage insect does not by itself mean that the rice has been adulterated or is chemically contaminated.
However, food safety remains our priority.
If you see fungus/mould, unusual odour, dampness, significant infestation or other signs of deterioration, please do not consume the product. SFA advises consumers to avoid food showing mould or other signs of spoilage.
Our Natural Preservation Approach
We follow natural preservation and storage practices rather than relying on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of the rice.
This is part of our philosophy of keeping the product closer to its traditional form.
Because of this approach, customers should understand that naturally handled grains may occasionally develop storage insects during storage.
Natural food requires responsible storage.
Once the rice is received:
- Keep it in a cool, dry place.
- Keep the container tightly closed.
- Protect it from humidity.
- Avoid direct sunlight.
- Check the rice periodically.
- Do not keep multiple opened packets unnecessarily.
These storage practices are particularly important in Singapore’s warm and humid climate.
The Sampoorna Swadesi Concept
We are not just selling a packet of rice.
We want our customers to know:
Who grew it.
Where it was grown.
How it was cultivated.
How it was processed.
For Sidda Sanna Rice:
Farmer: Yedukondalu
Place: Piduguralla, Andhra Pradesh
Variety: Sidda Sanna Rice
Processing: Single Polished
Farming approach: Traditional / Indigenous Natural Farming
This farmer-to-family connection is at the heart of Sampoorna Swadesi.
How to Use
Sidda Sanna Rice can be prepared as everyday cooked rice and used with traditional Indian meals.
Basic preparation
- Measure the required quantity.
- Wash the rice gently.
- Soak if preferred.
- Cook using a rice cooker, pressure cooker or traditional pot method.
- Adjust the water quantity according to your preferred softness and cooking method.
Tip: Since traditional rice varieties can behave differently from commercially polished rice, adjust the water ratio after your first preparation.
Storage
For best quality:
Store in a cool, dry place and keep the packet/container tightly sealed.
For opened rice, transferring it to a clean, dry, airtight food-grade container can help reduce exposure to moisture and storage pests.
SFA similarly recommends tightly sealed containers and cool, dry storage for rice.
Replacement & Quality Policy
We want to be transparent about our approach to naturally handled rice.
We generally do NOT replace the rice for:
- An occasional black rice insect/pest
- Minor natural variation in grain appearance
- Normal variation in grain size or colour
- Customer preference after opening the packet
Storage insects can occur naturally in stored grains, and proper storage after delivery is important.
We will review replacement requests for genuine quality problems such as:
- Visible fungus/mould
- White worms/larvae
- Significant infestation
- Serious deterioration
- Other substantial product-quality issues
Please contact us with photographs, your order number and product/batch details so that we can assess the issue.
Important
Customers should inspect the rice when received and store it properly after delivery. SFA also recommends consumers check food and packaging and seek information from online sellers when buying food online.
