Ragi Flour, also known as Finger Millet Flour, is made from ragi (finger millet) and is a versatile traditional flour used in many Indian recipes.
At Sampoorna Swadesi, our flours are made from grains and pulses sourced through our farming network. We focus on using unpolished, traditional/indigenous grains and maintaining the natural character of the raw material.
From Grain to Flour
Our flours are made from grains and pulses cultivated by different farming families.
Different crops require different soil, climate and growing conditions, so we source suitable grains and pulses from different farmers and locations.
For our flour range, our focus is on:
- Unpolished grains
- Traditional / indigenous varieties
- Careful selection of raw materials
- Milling the grain into flour
- No intentional adulteration
Because naturally handled grains can vary from batch to batch, you may notice differences in:
- Colour
- Aroma
- Texture
- Fineness
- Moisture
- Cooking characteristics
These natural variations do not necessarily indicate a quality problem.
We do not call our products “organic” because we do not have organic certification. Our focus is on the source of the grain and the traditional nature of the raw material.
Why You May Occasionally See Black Storage Pests
Customers may occasionally notice small black storage insects/pests in flours and other grain products.
We want our customers to understand that the occasional presence of a storage insect does not automatically mean the flour has been adulterated.
Stored grains can naturally attract insects, particularly in warm and humid conditions. They may become visible only after some time.
Because we do not rely on chemical pest-control treatments as a preservation method, occasional storage pests can occur.
Proper Storage
After opening:
- Keep Ragi Flour in a clean, dry, airtight container.
- Store it in a cool, dry place.
- Protect it from moisture and humidity.
- Always use a clean, dry spoon.
- Check the flour before use.
How to Use Ragi Flour
Ragi Flour can be used in many traditional and everyday preparations, including:
- Ragi dosa
- Ragi idli
- Ragi roti
- Ragi mudde
- Ragi porridge
- Ragi malt
- Ragi pancakes
- Ragi-based snacks and baked preparations
It can be used in both traditional recipes and modern everyday cooking.
Our Flour & Preservation Approach
We prefer natural handling and storage practices rather than depending on chemical preservatives.
As a result, natural differences may occur between batches in colour, aroma, texture and fineness.
Proper storage after opening is important to help maintain the quality of the flour.
Replacement Policy
We generally do not replace Ragi Flour for normal natural variation or occasional storage insects.
However, if you notice a genuine quality problem such as:
- Visible fungus or mould
- White worms/larvae
- Significant deterioration of the flour
please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. The issue will be reviewed and replacement will be considered where appropriate.
The Sampoorna Swadesi Approach
For us, good food begins with knowing the source of the raw material.
Our flours are made from grains and pulses sourced through our farming network. We focus on traditional/indigenous varieties, unpolished raw materials and careful handling.
We may not have organic certification, but we want our customers to understand what goes into the flour and where the raw material comes from.
Know your farmer. Know your food.
