About Amla

Amla, also known as Indian Gooseberry, is a naturally sour fruit traditionally used in Indian cuisine and various traditional food preparations. It has a firm, crisp texture and a distinctive sour and mildly astringent taste.

Our Amla is sourced through relationships with various farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, using traditional natural farming and indigenous agricultural practices. The actual farmer and source may vary from batch to batch depending on seasonal availability.

We use natural handling and preservation methods rather than relying on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh produce.

Benefits of Using

Amla has useful nutritional characteristics:

  • Naturally rich in vitamin C.
  • Provides dietary fibre.
  • Contains naturally occurring polyphenols and other plant compounds.
  • Provides minerals such as calcium, iron and potassium in smaller amounts.
  • Its naturally sour flavour makes it useful in chutneys, pickles and traditional food preparations.

These are general nutritional characteristics and are not medical claims.

Common Uses

Amla can be used for:

  • Fresh eating with salt or other seasonings
  • Amla chutney
  • Amla pickle
  • Amla thokku
  • Amla rice preparations
  • Amla pachadi
  • Amla candy
  • Amla juice and traditional beverages

Natural Freshness & Shelf Life

Amla is a fresh seasonal produce item. After harvesting, it naturally undergoes changes in firmness, moisture and appearance.

You may notice:

  • Gradual softening
  • Minor surface marks
  • Natural colour variation
  • Moisture loss
  • Changes in firmness
  • Occasional darkening of damaged areas

For the best crispness and freshness, Amla is best used soon after delivery.

Why Amla May Spoil Faster

Fresh produce naturally deteriorates with time, particularly in warm and humid conditions. We do not rely on chemical preservatives to artificially extend the shelf life of fresh produce.

Therefore, Amla may sometimes soften or develop natural surface changes during storage. This is a characteristic of fresh produce and does not automatically indicate poor quality.

Storage

For better freshness:

  • Refrigerate Amla after receiving it.
  • Keep it dry and avoid excess moisture.
  • Do not wash until you are ready to use it.
  • Store in a clean vegetable/fruit container or suitable bag.
  • Remove damaged pieces promptly.
  • Use the softer or more mature pieces first.

Natural Variation

Amla may naturally vary in:

  • Size
  • Shape
  • Green colour intensity
  • Firmness
  • Sourness
  • Astringency
  • Surface texture
  • Number or prominence of natural segments
  • Minor surface marks

These differences can occur naturally due to variety, season, weather, soil conditions and harvesting stage.

Replacement Policy

Generally, fresh produce is not eligible for replacement because of normal natural variation or ordinary spoilage after delivery.

Differences in size, colour, sourness, firmness, minor surface marks or natural moisture loss during storage are considered normal characteristics of fresh produce.

If there is a genuine quality issue that was already present at the time of delivery, please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. Each case will be reviewed individually.

Our Commitment
