Brown Basmati Rice is a traditional long-grain rice variety known for its distinctive aroma, slender grains and natural brown colour.  Our Brown Basmati Rice is cultivated by farming families in and around Bengaluru, Karnataka, using traditional and indigenous natural farming methods. The rice is processed to remove the inedible outer husk while retaining the bran layer, preserving its characteristic brown appearance and whole-grain structure.

Our Farming Practices

We work with farming families who follow traditional agricultural practices passed down through generations. Our approach focuses on natural farming methods and respect for traditional cultivation practices.

We do not claim organic certification for this product. Instead, our focus is on knowing the farmers we work with and maintaining a direct relationship with the people who grow our food.

Benefits of Brown Basmati Rice

  • Whole-grain goodness: Retains the bran layer, unlike polished white basmati rice.
  • Naturally higher in fibre: Generally contains more dietary fibre than white basmati rice.
  • Distinctive aroma: Known for its characteristic basmati fragrance.
  • Firm, wholesome texture: Has a slightly chewier texture than white basmati rice.
  • Versatile ingredient: Suitable for everyday meals and a variety of traditional rice dishes.

Common Uses

Brown Basmati Rice can be used to prepare:

  • Brown rice biryani
  • Vegetable pulao
  • Jeera brown rice
  • Steamed rice for everyday meals
  • Rice bowls with vegetables and dals
  • Other traditional and contemporary rice dishes

Cooking tip: Brown Basmati Rice generally takes longer to cook than white basmati rice. Rinsing the rice and soaking it before cooking can help achieve a more even texture. Adjust the water quantity and cooking time according to your preferred cooking method.

Natural Preservation & Storage

We follow natural preservation practices intended to maintain the rice’s quality and shelf life without relying on chemical preservatives.

As rice is a stored agricultural product, occasional storage pests may occur. Small insects or their eggs can sometimes be introduced during cultivation, harvesting, processing, transportation or storage and may become visible later. Their presence does not automatically establish that a product has been adulterated.

To help maintain quality:

  • Store rice in a clean, dry, airtight container.
  • Keep it in a cool place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Use a clean, dry scoop when handling the rice.
  • Inspect the rice periodically and keep it separate from other stored food if pests are noticed.

Natural Variations

As an agricultural product, brown basmati rice may show minor natural variations in grain length, brown colour, texture or aroma between batches. Such variations can occur due to growing conditions, harvests and processing.

The natural brown colour comes from the retained bran layer and is a normal characteristic of brown rice.

Replacement Policy

Rice is a dry grocery product. Minor natural variations in grain size, colour or aroma are not, by themselves, grounds for replacement.

We generally do not offer replacements for ordinary product variations or customer preferences.

However, if you notice any visible signs of fungal growth or white worms/larvae at the time of delivery, please do not open the packet or use the product. Inspect the packet externally. If you notice any visible issue, keep the packet sealed and contact us immediately.
