Toor Dal With Skin is a traditional pulse that retains its natural outer skin. At Sampoorna Swadesi, our grains and pulses are sourced through a network of farming families in India.
Different grains and pulses require different soil, climate and growing conditions. Therefore, we work with different farmers and locations depending on the crop and its suitability.
Know Your Farmers
Our grains and pulses are sourced from farming families including:
- Rajesh – Macherla, Andhra Pradesh
- Siva Reddy – Rayachoti, Andhra Pradesh
- Jagadeesh Rao – Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh
- Ashok Reddy – Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh
- Yedukondalu – Piduguralla, Andhra Pradesh
The actual farmer/source may vary by batch depending on crop availability and sourcing.
How Our Toor Dal With Skin Is Cultivated
Our Toor Dal With Skin is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds.
We follow natural preservation and storage methods to help maintain the shelf life of the pulse instead of relying on chemical preservatives.
Because the product is naturally cultivated and handled, natural variations may occur between batches in:
- Colour
- Size and shape
- Skin appearance
- Texture
- Aroma
- Moisture
- Cooking characteristics
These variations can naturally occur from one harvest or batch to another.
We do not call our products “organic” because we do not have organic certification. Our focus is on knowing the farmers, the source and the farming practices.
Why You May Occasionally See Black Storage Pests
Customers may occasionally notice small black storage insects/pests in Toor Dal and other stored pulses.
We want our customers to understand that the occasional presence of a storage insect does not automatically mean that the pulse has been adulterated.
Stored grains and pulses can naturally attract insects, particularly under warm and humid storage conditions. These insects may become visible only after some time.
Because we follow natural preservation practices rather than depending on chemical pest-control treatments, occasional storage insects can occur.
Proper Storage
After opening:
- Store Toor Dal With Skin in a clean, dry, airtight container.
- Keep it in a cool, dry place.
- Protect it from moisture.
- Check the dal before cooking.
How to Use Toor Dal With Skin
Toor Dal With Skin can be used in traditional and everyday preparations such as:
- Dal
- Sambar
- Dal curry
- Dal with vegetables
- Khichdi
- Traditional Indian pulse preparations
- Sprouted or soaked pulse preparations where suitable
Important: Soak and cook the dal properly according to your recipe and preparation method.
Our Preservation Approach
We prefer natural preservation and storage practices instead of relying on chemical preservatives.
As a result, customers may notice natural differences between batches in colour, skin appearance, size, aroma, texture and cooking behaviour.
Such natural variation does not necessarily indicate a quality problem.
Replacement Policy
We generally do not replace Toor Dal With Skin for normal natural variation or occasional storage insects.
However, if you notice a genuine quality problem such as:
- Visible fungus or mould
- White worms/larvae
- Significant deterioration of the product
please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. The issue will be reviewed and replacement will be considered where appropriate.
The Sampoorna Swadesi Approach
