Pearl Millet, also traditionally known as Bajra, is cultivated by our farmer Sivarami Reddy from Adoni, Andhra Pradesh.

At Sampoorna Swadesi, we focus on maintaining a direct connection with the farmer and bringing traditionally cultivated millets to our customers. Our Pearl Millet is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds, with natural preservation practices used to help maintain its shelf life.

Know Your Farmer

Our Pearl Millet is cultivated by:

Farmer: Sivarami Reddy
Location: Adoni, Andhra Pradesh, India

We work with farming families who follow traditional agricultural practices and aim to preserve the natural character of the grain.

How Our Pearl Millet Is Cultivated

Our Pearl Millet is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds.

We follow natural preservation and storage methods to help maintain the shelf life of the millet instead of relying on chemical preservatives.

As a naturally handled grain, you may notice natural variations between batches in:

  • Colour
  • Grain size and appearance
  • Aroma
  • Texture
  • Moisture
  • Cooking characteristics

We do not call our products “organic” because we do not have organic certification. Our focus is on knowing the farmer, the source and the farming practices.

Why You May Occasionally See Black Storage Pests

Customers may occasionally notice small black storage insects/pests in millets and other stored grains.

This is something we want our customers to understand.

Because we follow natural preservation practices and do not depend on chemical pest-control treatments, stored grains can naturally attract insects, particularly in warm and humid conditions.

The occasional presence of a storage insect does not automatically mean that the millet has been adulterated.

Storage insects can:

  • Occur naturally in stored grains
  • Become visible only after some time
  • Develop more readily in warm and humid conditions
  • Appear even when the grain has been properly cultivated and stored

Proper Storage

After opening, transfer the Pearl Millet to a clean, dry, airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place. Keep moisture away from the grain.

How to Use Pearl Millet

Pearl Millet (Bajra) can be used in many traditional and everyday preparations:

  • Bajra roti
  • Millet dosa
  • Millet idli
  • Millet upma
  • Millet porridge
  • Khichdi
  • Millet rice preparations
  • Traditional millet recipes
  • Millet-based breakfast dishes

It can be incorporated into everyday meals as part of a varied and balanced diet.

Our Preservation Approach

We prefer natural preservation and storage practices instead of relying on chemical preservatives.

Because of this approach, natural variations may occur between different batches. Differences in colour, aroma, texture or grain appearance are not necessarily an indication of a quality problem.

Replacement Policy

We generally do not replace millets for normal natural variation or occasional storage insects.

However, if you notice a genuine quality problem such as:

  • Visible fungus or mould
  • White worms/larvae
  • Significant deterioration of the product

please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. The issue will be reviewed and replacement will be considered where appropriate.

The Sampoorna Swadesi Approach

We believe that trust in food begins with knowing its source.

Our aim is to maintain a direct relationship with farming families, understand their farming practices and bring traditionally cultivated food to our customers.

We may not have organic certification, but we want our customers to know who grows their food, where it comes from and how it is cultivated.

Know your farmer. Know your food.
