Jowar, also known as Sorghum, is a traditional millet cultivated by our farmer Sivarami Reddy from Adoni, Andhra Pradesh.

At Sampoorna Swadesi, we believe in maintaining a direct connection with the farmers who grow our food. Our Jowar is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds, with natural preservation practices used to help maintain its shelf life.

Know Your Farmer

Our Jowar is cultivated by:

Farmer: Sivarami Reddy
Location: Adoni, Andhra Pradesh, India

We work with farming families who follow traditional agricultural practices and aim to preserve the natural character of the grain.

How Our Jowar Is Cultivated

Our Jowar is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds.

We follow natural preservation and storage methods to help maintain the shelf life of the grain instead of relying on chemical preservatives.

Because Jowar is naturally cultivated and handled, you may notice variations between batches in:

  • Grain colour
  • Grain size and appearance
  • Aroma
  • Texture
  • Moisture
  • Cooking characteristics

These natural variations can occur from one harvest or batch to another.

We do not call our products “organic” because we do not have organic certification. Our focus is on knowing the farmer, the source and the farming practices.

Why You May Occasionally See Black Storage Pests

Customers may occasionally notice small black storage insects/pests in Jowar and other stored grains.

We want our customers to understand that the occasional presence of a storage insect does not automatically mean the grain has been adulterated.

Stored grains can naturally attract insects, particularly in warm and humid conditions. These insects may become visible only after some time.

Because we follow natural preservation practices rather than depending on chemical pest-control treatments, occasional storage insects can occur.

Proper Storage

After opening:

  • Store Jowar in a clean, dry, airtight container.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place.
  • Protect the grain from moisture.
  • Check the grain periodically before use.

How to Use Jowar

Jowar can be used in a variety of traditional and everyday preparations, including:

  • Jowar roti
  • Jowar bhakri
  • Jowar dosa
  • Jowar idli
  • Jowar upma
  • Jowar porridge
  • Jowar-based snacks
  • Millet-based breakfast dishes
  • Traditional Indian recipes

Jowar can be included as part of a varied and balanced diet.

Our Preservation Approach

We prefer natural preservation and storage practices instead of relying on chemical preservatives.

As a result, customers may notice natural differences between batches in colour, aroma, texture and appearance. Such variations do not necessarily indicate a quality problem.

Replacement Policy

We generally do not replace Jowar for normal natural variation or occasional storage insects.

However, if you notice a genuine quality problem such as:

  • Visible fungus or mould
  • White worms/larvae
  • Significant deterioration of the product

please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. The issue will be reviewed and replacement will be considered where appropriate.

The Sampoorna Swadesi Approach

We believe that trust in food begins with knowing its source.

Our aim is to maintain a direct relationship with farming families, understand their farming practices and bring traditionally cultivated food to our customers.

We may not have organic certification, but we want our customers to know who grows their food, where it comes from and how it is cultivated.

Know your farmer. Know your food.
