Finger Millet, also known as Ragi, is a traditional millet cultivated by our farmer Sivarami Reddy from Adoni, Andhra Pradesh.
At Sampoorna Swadesi, we focus on maintaining a direct connection with the farmer and bringing traditionally cultivated grains to our customers. Our Finger Millet is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds.
Know Your Farmer
Our Finger Millet is cultivated by:
Farmer: Sivarami Reddy
Location: Adoni, Andhra Pradesh, India
We work with farming families who follow traditional agricultural practices and aim to maintain the natural character of the grain.
How Our Finger Millet Is Cultivated
Our Finger Millet is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds.
We follow natural preservation and storage methods to help maintain the shelf life of the grain instead of relying on chemical preservatives.
Since the grain is handled with minimal intervention, natural variations in colour, aroma, texture and appearance may occur from batch to batch.
We do not call our products “organic” because we do not have organic certification. Our focus is on knowing the farmer, the source and the farming practices.
Why You May Occasionally See Black Storage Pests
Customers may occasionally notice small black storage insects/pests in millets and other stored grains.
This is something we want our customers to understand clearly.
Because we follow natural preservation and do not depend on chemical pest-control treatments, stored grains can naturally attract insects, particularly under warm and humid storage conditions.
The occasional presence of a storage insect does not automatically mean that the millet has been adulterated.
These insects can:
- Be present in stored grains naturally
- Become visible only after some time
- Develop more readily in warm and humid conditions
- Affect traditionally stored grains without necessarily indicating adulteration
We recommend checking the grain before use and storing it properly after opening.
Storage tip: Keep Finger Millet in a clean, dry, airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place.
How to Use Finger Millet
Finger Millet (Ragi) is versatile and can be used in a variety of traditional preparations:
- Ragi dosa
- Ragi idli
- Ragi porridge
- Ragi mudde
- Ragi roti
- Millet upma
- Ragi malt
- Ragi-based breakfast preparations
- Traditional snacks and recipes
It can be included as part of a varied and balanced diet.
Our Natural Preservation Approach
We prefer traditional and natural preservation practices rather than relying on chemical preservatives.
As a result, customers may notice natural differences between batches in:
- Grain colour
- Size and appearance
- Aroma
- Texture
- Moisture
- Cooking characteristics
These natural variations do not necessarily indicate that there is a quality problem.
Replacement Policy
We generally do not replace millets for normal natural variation or occasional storage insects.
However, if you receive a product with a genuine quality issue such as:
- Visible fungus or mould
- White worms/larvae
- Significant deterioration of the product
please contact us with clear photographs and your order details. The issue will be reviewed and replacement will be considered where appropriate.
The Sampoorna Swadesi Approach
For us, food is not just a product on a shelf.
We believe in building a connection between farmer, land and customer.
We source from farming families we know and focus on understanding how the food is cultivated and preserved. We may not have organic certification, but we want our customers to know who grows their food and where it comes from.
Know your farmer. Know your food.
