Naturally Grown | Traditional Farming | Directly Sourced from Our Farmer

Browntop Millet is a traditional millet cultivated by our farmer Sivarami Reddy from Adoni, Andhra Pradesh. It is grown using natural farming practices and traditional/indigenous seeds, with care taken to preserve the natural character of the grain.

At Sampoorna Swadesi, our focus is not simply on selling a packet of millet, but on maintaining a direct connection with the farmer and understanding how the food is cultivated, harvested and preserved.

Know Your Farmer

Our Browntop Millet is cultivated by:

Farmer: Sivarami Reddy
Location: Adoni, Andhra Pradesh, India

We work directly with farming families and prefer traditional farming practices that have been followed for generations.

🌱 How Our Browntop Millet Is Cultivated

Our Browntop Millet is cultivated using natural farming methods and traditional/indigenous seeds.

We avoid the use of chemical preservatives during storage and follow natural preservation and storage practices intended to maintain the grain’s shelf life.

This means the appearance, colour, aroma and texture of the millet may naturally vary from batch to batch.

We do not call our products “organic” because we do not have organic certification. Our focus is on knowing the farmer, the source and the farming practices.

Why You May Occasionally See Black Storage Pests

Because our millets are handled and preserved without relying on chemical pest-control treatments, occasional storage insects/pests can naturally occur in stored grains, particularly in warm and humid conditions.

This is important for customers to understand:

  • The presence of an occasional storage pest does not automatically mean the grain has been adulterated.
  • Stored grains can naturally attract insects during storage.
  • These insects may become visible only after some time.
  • This can happen even when the grain has been properly cultivated and handled.

For this reason, we encourage customers to inspect the grains before use and store them properly.

For longer storage, keep the millet in a clean, dry, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place.

How to Use Browntop Millet

Browntop Millet can be used in many traditional preparations, including:

  • Millet rice
  • Millet upma
  • Pongal
  • Khichdi
  • Porridge
  • Dosa
  • Idli
  • Millet-based breakfast dishes
  • Other traditional rice-based recipes

It can be incorporated into everyday meals as part of a varied diet.

Our Preservation Approach

We believe grains should retain their natural character.

Instead of depending on chemical preservatives, we follow natural preservation and storage practices to help maintain shelf life.

Because of this approach, customers may notice natural differences between batches in:

  • Colour
  • Grain appearance
  • Aroma
  • Texture
  • Moisture
  • Cooking behaviour

These variations can occur naturally and do not necessarily indicate a quality problem.

Replacement Policy

We want our customers to receive products in acceptable condition.

Generally, we do not replace millets for normal natural variation or occasional storage insects.

However, if you notice a genuine quality problem such as:

  • Visible fungus or mould
  • White worms/larvae
  • Significant deterioration of the product

please contact us with clear photographs and order details. The issue will be reviewed and replacement will be considered where appropriate.

The Sampoorna Swadesi Approach

We believe that trust in food begins with knowing where it comes from.

We may not have an organic certification, but we aim to maintain a direct relationship with our farming families, understand the land and farming practices, and bring traditionally cultivated food to our customers.

Know your farmer. Know your food.
